Target Parasites & Animals

Moximax Sheep Long Acting Injection is registered for use in sheep. It treats and controls a broad range of internal and external parasites including Haemonchus contortus (Barber's Pole Worm), Trichostrongylus spp. (black scour worms), Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) spp. (brown stomach worm), Cooperia spp., Nematodirus spp., Strongyloides papillosus (threadworm), Oesophagostomum columbianum (nodule worm), Chabertia ovina (large-mouthed bowel worm), and Dictyocaulus filaria (large lungworm) — covering both adult and immature stages. External parasites controlled include Psorergates ovis (itchmite) and Oestrus ovis (nasal bot). A single subcutaneous dose provides protection against reinfection by Haemonchus contortus and Teladorsagia circumcincta for not less than 91 days, and against severe Barber's Pole Worm challenge for up to 4 months.

Administer Moximax Sheep Long Acting Injection by subcutaneous injection at the base of the ear or high on the neck behind the ear, using an appropriate injector gun.

Weigh all sheep before treatment and dose according to liveweight at 1mg moxidectin per kg liveweight (1mL per 20kg). Always dose to the heaviest animal in the mob to avoid underdosing. Refer to the dosage table on the product label for guidance across the full weight range. Do not estimate weights — accurate dosing is essential for efficacy and responsible resistance management.

Ensure injection equipment is properly calibrated before use and cleaned and maintained after each session. Rotate injection sites where practical. Keep records of treatment date, batch number, animals treated, and withholding periods. Always read the full product label before use and consult your local TGRM team or animal health adviser if you have any questions.

Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. Tips for Best Results

  • Weigh accurately, every time. Underdosing is one of the leading contributors to drench resistance. Never estimate liveweights — use a weighing crate and dose to the heaviest animal in the mob.
  • Understand Macrocyclic Lactone (ML) resistance. ML resistance in Haemonchus contortus is present on properties across Queensland, including the Gympie region. Use faecal egg count reduction tests (FECRT) to confirm moxidectin is still effective on your property before relying on it as a sole treatment option. Contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 for guidance on testing.
  • Maintain refugia. WormBoss strongly recommends leaving a proportion of the mob untreated at each drench to preserve a population of worms in refugia — worms that have not been exposed to the drench and are therefore unlikely to carry resistance genes. This slows the development of resistance on your property. Seek advice on which animals to leave untreated based on your mob's risk profile.
  • Rotate drench classes strategically. The long-acting nature of moxidectin means animals are exposed to the ML class for an extended period. Discuss your whole-of-year drench rotation strategy with your TGRM adviser to ensure you are not over-relying on any single drench class.
  • Store correctly. Store below 30°C out of direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Check the expiry date before use and record the batch number with each treatment event for traceability.
