Administer the entire contents of the syringe orally by placing the paste on the back of the horse's tongue. Accurate dosing by body weight is essential — use a weight tape to determine your horse's weight and ensure the correct dose is given. Administer once, then monitor for effectiveness using a faecal egg count 10–14 days post-treatment. Do not redose based on a calendar; instead, conduct a faecal egg count before your next treatment to determine if worming is necessary. Tips: Modern best practice is to perform a faecal egg count (FEC) before each treatment rather than following a fixed every-8-week schedule, as this prevents resistance and identifies the 20% of horses carrying 80% of worm burden. Rotate between active ingredient classes (macrocyclic lactones like ivermectin, benzimidazoles like fenbendazole, and pyrimidines like pyrantel) across treatments to prevent drench resistance. If your horse has tapeworms or you suspect them, use a wormer containing praziquantel, as other classes do not cover tapeworms.
