Zoetis Equest Plus Tape Gel is Long-acting horse wormer for control of tapeworms, roundworms, bots and summer sores. Palatable, low-dose gel formulation protects for 14-16 weeks compared to 6-8 weeks for other wormers, resulting in fewer treatments per year and longer periods where pastures are free from worm eggs.

Equest Plus Tape gel is also the only horse wormer to have a registered claim to control encysted small strongyles (may cause colic) in a single dose, compared to other wormers that only kill adults in the gut itself. Gel formulation dissolves rapidly on the tongue, assisting treatment compliance.

Dial-up syringe with narrow barrel to allow easy access into the side of the horse’s mouth and delivery of correct dose. Safe for use in pregnant mares, breeding stallions and foals over 4 weeks of age. Species treated include tapeworm, large strongyles, ascarids, small strongyles, pinworms, ascarids, hairworms, stomach worms, stomach bots, Habronema and Onchocerca species.

Host: Horses (foals over 4 weeks, pregnant mares, breeding stallions). Target: Tapeworms (Anoplocephala perfoliata, A. magna, Paranoplocephala mamillana); large strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentatus, S. equinus, Triodontophorus spp.); small strongyles — adults and encysted larval stages (including inhibited larvae); pinworms; ascarids; hairworms; intestinal threadworms; stomach worms (Habronema); stomach bots (Gasterophilus spp.); cutaneous onchocerciasis (Onchocerca spp.).

Dose rate & administration

Dose rate is 0.4 mg/kg moxidectin and 2.5 mg/kg praziquantel, delivered by setting the dial-up syringe to the horse's bodyweight (calibrated in 25 kg increments). Weigh or weigh-tape the horse, turn the dial ring so its left edge aligns with the horse's weight, then insert the nozzle between the front and rear teeth with the tip over the back of the tongue, depress the plunger and raise the horse's head briefly to ensure the gel is swallowed. The 14.4 g syringe treats horses up to 700 kg (the 11.8 g syringe up to 575 kg). DO NOT administer the full syringe to horses under the weight the syringe is sized for — always dose to actual bodyweight. Safe in pregnant mares, breeding stallions and foals over 4 weeks of age. Keep spilt gel away from dogs. Retreatment intervals for small strongyles can be extended to 14–16 weeks.

Tips for Best Results

  • Always set the dial to the horse's actual bodyweight — never give a full syringe to a horse lighter than the syringe is sized for.
  • Because of its long egg-reappearance period, Equest Plus Tape allows retreatment intervals of 14–16 weeks for small strongyles; use faecal egg counts to guide the program and rotate with a non-mectin wormer where appropriate.
  • Keep spilt gel away from dogs — moxidectin can be toxic to dogs.
