Target Pests
Surefire FiveStar (80 g/L bifenthrin, Group 3A synthetic pyrethroid) is registered for post-construction protection of structures from subterranean termites (Coptotermes, Mastotermes, Schedorhinotermes, Heterotermes spp.) and for a range of urban interior and exterior pests including spiders, ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, paper-nest wasps and ticks, plus listed pests of turf, ornamentals, apples and pears. Bifenthrin is a fast-acting contact insecticide that leaves a long-lasting residual deposit on treated surfaces and in treated soil; unlike non-repellent termiticides it forms a repellent treated zone that termites will not cross.
Surefire FiveStar contains 80 g/L bifenthrin and is diluted with water before use. General urban pests: 65–125 mL per 100 L of water depending on the pest and surface, applied at 1 L of spray per 20 m² on non-porous surfaces or per 10 m² on porous surfaces to harbourages and resting sites; keep people and pets off treated surfaces until dry (3–4 hours). Turf, ornamentals, apples and pears: label rates (e.g. apples 12 mL/100 L; pears and ornamentals 112 mL/100 L; turf sprays in at least 200 L/ha of water to move the product into the thatch). Termites: post-construction treated zones at the label dilution – horizontal barriers 5 L of emulsion per m², vertical barriers at least 100 L per m³ of soil, or slab injection at 1.5–3 L per hole at 150–300 mm spacing – in accordance with AS 3660; termite work should be carried out by a licensed pest control operator and, where state law requires, only by one. Do not apply to waterlogged soil or before heavy rain. Refer to the registered label directions-for-use tables.
Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. The registered label supplied with the product is the legal document and takes precedence. If in doubt, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 or the manufacturer directly.
Tips for Best Results
- Use the right rate for the job: general-pest, turf/orchard and termite treatments each have their own dilution and volume on the label.
- Complete soil coverage for termites: gaps in the treated zone (penetrations, expansion joints, disturbed soil) are the most common cause of failure; engage a licensed operator.
- Avoid disturbing treated soil: do not dig or heavily irrigate the treated zone after application.
- Protect waterways and bees: bifenthrin is very toxic to aquatic life and bees – keep spray and run-off out of drains and water and do not spray flowering plants while bees forage.
- Store correctly: original container, cool, well ventilated, away from children, animals and food; annual termite inspections are still recommended.
Always read the label and follow directions for use. The registered label is the legal document governing use of this product.
