Target Pests
Surefire Fivestar Termite Insecticide is registered for the control of subterranean termites (white ants), including key pest species found across Australia such as Coptotermes acinaciformis, Coptotermes frenchi, Mastotermes darwiniensis, Schedorhinotermes spp., and Heterotermes spp. These species are responsible for significant structural timber damage to buildings, fences, and other timber assets throughout Queensland and the broader Australian landscape. Fipronil works as a non-repellent termiticide, meaning termites do not detect or avoid the treated zone and instead carry the active ingredient back to the colony, contributing to broader colony suppression.
Surefire Fivestar Termite Insecticide contains fipronil, a phenylpyrazole insecticide used for the control of subterranean termites. It is typically applied as a soil treatment to create a treated zone around and beneath structures, forming a barrier that termites contact and transfer to other colony members. Always read the product label in full before use, as application rates and methods vary depending on soil type, construction type, and the specific situation being treated.
For soil barrier treatments, the product is diluted with water and applied using a rod injection system, trench-and-treat method, or similar soil application technique around the perimeter of buildings and through concrete slabs where required. Ensure even distribution throughout the treated zone to avoid gaps that termites could exploit. The label will specify dilution rates and volumes per linear metre or square metre — always follow these precisely.
Timing is important: avoid applying during or immediately before heavy rain, as runoff could reduce efficacy and pose an environmental risk. Do not apply to waterlogged soils or in areas where treated soil could wash into drainage systems, stormwater drains, or waterways. Allow adequate time for the treated zone to be fully established before covering with concrete or pavers where applicable.

Tips for Best Results
- Professional use only: This product is an S6 scheduled chemical restricted to licensed pest management technicians. Ensure all state and territory licensing requirements are met before purchase or use.
- Achieve complete soil coverage: Gaps or breaks in the treated soil zone are the most common reason for treatment failure — pay close attention to penetrations, expansion joints, plumbing entry points, and areas of disturbed soil around the structure.
- Avoid soil disturbance after treatment: Advise property owners not to dig, irrigate heavily, or disturb the treated zone after application, as this can compromise the integrity of the barrier.
- Store correctly: Keep in the original container, tightly sealed, in a cool and well-ventilated storage area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, foodstuffs, and out of reach of children and animals — as required for all S6 scheduled products.
- Follow up with inspection: Fipronil soil barriers provide long-term protection, but annual termite inspections are still strongly recommended in high-risk areas like South-East Queensland to detect any new activity or barrier breaches early.
Always read the label and follow directions for use. The registered label is the legal document governing use of this product.
