Target Pests

Surefire Antstar Granular Insecticide is primarily targeted at ants, including common pest species encountered in agricultural, commercial, and domestic settings in Australia. Fipronil, the active ingredient, is effective against a broad range of ant species including Black House Ants, Coastal Brown Ants (Singapore Ants), Odorous Ants, and other nuisance ant species. As a broad-spectrum insecticide, Fipronil also provides activity against other soil-dwelling and surface insects. Always check the registered label to confirm the full list of approved target species for this specific product formulation.

Surefire Antstar Granular Insecticide contains Fipronil as the active ingredient and is applied as a ready-to-use granule — no mixing or dilution required. Broadcast granules evenly over the target area using a suitable hand spreader or mechanical spreader, ensuring good coverage around ant trails, nest entrances, and active foraging areas. For best results, apply granules directly around and over ant mounds, disturbing the mound slightly beforehand to increase ant contact with the product.

This product works as a bait-style or contact granule, relying on ants picking up and transferring the active ingredient through the colony. Avoid applying in wet conditions or immediately before rain, as excess moisture can reduce product efficacy and cause unwanted movement of granules away from the target zone. Apply when ants are actively foraging — typically during warmer parts of the day in cooler months, or in the early morning and evening during the heat of summer.

Always refer to the product label for specific application rates, area coverage guidance, and withholding periods relevant to your situation. This product is registered for use in pest control (PCT) applications — ensure use is consistent with the approved label uses for your specific site and pest scenario.

Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. The registered label supplied with the product is the legal document and takes precedence. If in doubt, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 or the manufacturer directly.

Tips for Best Results

  • Apply during active foraging periods: Ants are most active in the early morning or late afternoon during summer heat, and throughout the day in mild conditions — timing your application to coincide with peak activity improves uptake and colony transfer of the active ingredient.
  • Avoid applying before rain or irrigation: Fipronil granules need time to be contacted and carried by ants. Heavy rain or irrigation shortly after application can wash granules away from the target area and reduce effectiveness.
  • Don't disturb treated areas after application: Allow granules to remain undisturbed so ants can forage through the treated zone and carry the product back to the colony for maximum impact.
  • Minimise non-target exposure: Fipronil is harmful to beneficial insects including bees. Avoid applying granules to flowering plants or areas where bees are actively foraging. Keep children and pets away from treated areas until the product has been incorporated or settled.
  • Store correctly and observe schedule requirements: As a Schedule 6 product, store Surefire Antstar in a cool, dry, locked location away from foodstuffs, feed, and water sources. Always wear appropriate PPE as directed on the label and dispose of empty containers in accordance with local regulations.
