Target Weeds
This product controls a range of broadleaf weeds commonly found in lawns and turf, including bindii (Soliva sessilis), clover (Trifolium spp.), creeping oxalis (Oxalis corniculata), and other broadleaf weeds as listed on the product label, plus certain broadleaf weeds in winter cereals, linseed and grass pastures. Bromoxynil is a contact Group 6 (photosystem II inhibitor) herbicide that gives fast burn-down of susceptible broadleaf weeds, while MCPA is a systemic Group 4 (synthetic auxin) herbicide that translocates through the plant. The combination is registered on established buffalo grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum), couch, kikuyu, Queensland blue couch, paspalum, fescue, bent and rye lawns.
Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller contains 200 g/L bromoxynil (as the n-octanoyl ester) and 200 g/L MCPA (as the ethyl hexyl ester), a combination of a Group 6 (C) and a Group 4 (I) herbicide that controls bindii, clover, oxalis and other broadleaf weeds in established lawns of buffalo, couch, kikuyu, Queensland blue couch, paspalum, fescue, bent and rye grasses, and certain broadleaf weeds in wheat, barley, oats, cereal rye, triticale, linseed and grass pastures. Mix the required amount of product with water in a sprayer as directed on the product label, ensuring thorough agitation before and during application.
Label turf rate: 60 mL per 100 m² (or 300 mL per 100 L of water applied to run-off); cereal and pasture rates are 750 mL–2 L/ha depending on the weed and growth stage – refer to the registered label. Apply as a uniform foliar spray to small, actively growing weeds, taking care to achieve even coverage without excessive run-off.
Do not apply if weeds are wilted by dry or cold weather, if rain is likely within 4 hours, to frost-affected crops or lawns, or when temperatures exceed 20°C, as crop/turf damage risk increases. Avoid spraying in high winds to prevent drift onto desirable plants, garden beds, or neighbouring properties.
Withholding period: DO NOT harvest, graze or cut for stock food for 8 weeks after application. Always read the full product label before use. This is a Schedule 7 (S7) Dangerous Poison – wear appropriate PPE including chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing when mixing and applying. Tips for Best Results
- Treat weeds early: Apply when bindii and other broadleaf weeds are small and actively growing — in Queensland this typically means treating in autumn or winter before bindii sets seed and forms prickles. Once prickles form, the season is largely lost.
- Check your turf variety: Bromoxynil and MCPA are registered for use on established buffalo, couch, kikuyu and other listed lawn grasses, but some finer or more sensitive varieties may show temporary discolouration. Always do a small spot test and wait several days before treating the whole lawn.
- Avoid heat and drought stress: Do not apply during hot, dry Queensland summers or when the lawn is under moisture stress. Wait until conditions are mild and the lawn has been watered — stressed turf is more susceptible to herbicide damage.
- Protect garden plants and trees: MCPA is a hormone-type herbicide and spray drift can damage nearby ornamentals, vegetables, vines and trees. Keep spray well away from garden beds and shrubs, and do not apply in windy conditions or when temperatures exceed 20°C.
- Storage and safety: Store in a cool, dry, locked location away from children, pets, feed, and foodstuffs, as required for a Schedule 7 Dangerous Poison. Do not store in direct sunlight or extreme heat. Dispose of empty containers according to label instructions and local council requirements.
