How it works
Intervix® is absorbed through the leaves, green stems and roots of susceptible weeds and moved from the point of contact throughout the plant. Weeds will either die or will remain stunted and will not compete with the crop. Symptoms of kill may take one to two weeks to develop, with death occurring up to one month from treatment. Symptoms first appear at the growth points where young foliage becomes discoloured and distorted before dying.
Intervix is primarily a post-emergence product. Best results will be achieved when good contact and coverage of weeds occurs and weeds are actively growing.
Intervix also has some residual soil activity under good soil moisture conditions. Residual effects on weeds can be reduced when dry soil conditions follow application before the herbicide has moved to the root zone. Best results will be achieved when application is made to moist soil or if approximately 10 mm rain follows within several days of application.
Vigorous crop growth will assist in suppressing weeds not completely killed and those germinating later.

It also controls many broadleaf weeds, rhizomatous and stoloniferous grasses, and aquatic or riparian weeds where registered. Imazapyr is particularly valued for its systemic action and soil residual activity, making it effective against deep-rooted perennial species and regrowth from rootstocks. Intervix Herbicide (imazapyr) is a broad-spectrum, soil-active and foliar-absorbed herbicide used for non-selective weed control in non-crop areas, industrial sites, roadsides, and as a basal bark or cut-stump treatment for woody weed control. It can be applied as a foliar spray, basal bark treatment, cut-stump application, or injected directly into target plants depending on the weed species and situation. Always read the product label and Safety Data Sheet before use, as Intervix is a Schedule 6 poison requiring careful handling.
For foliar applications, mix the required volume of Intervix with clean water in a partially filled spray tank, agitate well, and top up to the final volume. Apply using correctly calibrated ground spray equipment or handgun to ensure thorough, even coverage of target vegetation. For basal bark and cut-stump treatments, mix with an appropriate penetrant oil or carrier as directed on the label and apply to the bark or freshly cut surface of woody stems. Always refer to the current registered label for exact mixing rates and water volumes suited to your target weed and application method.
Timing is critical — foliar applications are most effective when weeds are actively growing and not under stress from drought, frost, or waterlogging. For woody weeds, cut-stump and basal bark treatments can be carried out year-round, though active growth periods generally improve uptake. Do not apply if rainfall is expected within the period specified on the label, as washoff will reduce efficacy. Avoid application on windy days to minimise spray drift onto non-target vegetation and crops.
Imazapyr has significant soil residual activity and can persist in the soil for extended periods, particularly in alkaline or low-rainfall conditions. Do not use in or near areas where desirable plants or future cropping is intended, as soil residues may damage susceptible species. Observe all buffer distances from waterways, sensitive vegetation, and adjoining properties as specified on the label.

Tips for Best Results
- Observe withholding and re-entry periods: Imazapyr has long soil residual activity — keep records of where and when you apply, and do not sow susceptible pasture or crop species until the required breakdown period has passed for your soil type and conditions.
- Apply during active growth: Foliar treatments work best when target weeds are actively growing and have adequate leaf area. Avoid treating drought-stressed, frosted, or senescent vegetation as uptake and translocation will be reduced.
- Minimise spray drift risk: Use low-drift nozzles, appropriate boom height, and avoid spraying in winds above 15 km/h. Imazapyr is highly active on most plant species — even minimal drift onto pastures, trees, or neighbouring crops can cause significant damage.
- Resistance management: Imazapyr belongs to the ALS-inhibitor (Group B) herbicide class. Where possible, rotate or combine with herbicides from different mode-of-action groups and use integrated weed management practices to reduce selection pressure for resistance.
- Storage and safety: Store in a cool, dry, locked location away from children, livestock, and foodstuffs, as required for a Schedule 6 poison. Wear appropriate PPE including chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing when mixing and applying. Dispose of empty containers as per label instructions through an accredited drumMUSTER collection point where available.
