Target Pests

Controls susceptible buffalo fly (Haematobia irritans exigua) for up to 16 weeks, and aids in the control of cattle biting lice and of paralysis tick on suckling beef and dairy calves for up to 42 days. Suitable for beef and dairy cattle, including lactating dairy cows.

Y-Tex Python is a sustained-release insecticidal ear tag containing 100 g/kg zeta-cypermethrin and 200 g/kg piperonyl butoxide (a synergised synthetic pyrethroid). Always read the registered product label in full before use.

Application

Apply tags with a Y-Tex UltraTagger or suitable Y-Tex adapter pin.

  • Buffalo fly & paralysis tick: two tags per animal — one in each ear.
  • Cattle biting lice: one tag per head.

Removal

Remove tags at 16 weeks (buffalo fly) or after 3 months (lice). Removing spent tags is important for resistance management — it stops fly populations being exposed to sub-lethal doses.

Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. The registered label supplied with the product is the legal document and takes precedence. If in doubt, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 or the manufacturer directly.

Tips for Best Results

  • Tag as the season builds: apply as buffalo fly numbers start to rise for maximum benefit across the season.
  • Always remove spent tags: pull tags at the end of their life — leaving them on exposes flies to sub-lethal doses and drives resistance.
  • Rotate chemical groups: Python is a synthetic pyrethroid (SP) — rotate with a different chemical group between seasons to preserve efficacy.
  • Rainfast & dipfast: tags keep working through rain and dipping.
