Install the Water Tank Strainer on your water tank outlet, ensuring a secure fit to the 500mm opening. Position the strainer bowl to face downward and attach your inlet hose or float valve to the outlet connection. Place the trough on level, well-drained ground with partial shade to minimise algae growth and water temperature fluctuations. Ensure the trough is stable and won't tip, then fill with fresh water and monitor water levels daily, especially during hot Queensland summers. Tips: Clean the strainer basket weekly and the trough monthly to prevent algae buildup, which accelerates in warm weather when cattle water consumption can double. Install a float valve to automatically maintain water levels and prevent overflow, reducing labour and water waste. Position the trough in a shaded area to keep water cooler and reduce algae growth — aim for morning sun exposure only.
