Ultravac 7in1 is used to prevent the common types of leptospirosis which affect cattle (and can also be transmitted from cattle to people) as well as prevent the major life threatening clostridial diseases that commonly can occur in cattle.
Ultravac 7in1 is used for the routine immunisation of cattle for the prevention of enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease), tetanus, black disease, malignant oedema (blackleg-like disease), blackleg and leptospirosis in cattle. For the prevention of urinary shedding of the named leptospires in cattle when used prior to natural exposure and to prevent the risk of human leptospiral infection associated with the shedding of the named leptospires in the urine and from the reproductive tract of cattle. For the prevention of reproductive tract colonisation and placental and foetal infection with L. hardjo.

Ultravac 7in1 vaccine provides unique protection by preventing the shedding of leptospires L.hardjo and L.pomona in the urine and from the reproductive tract. This means that as well as the animal being protected from the productivity losses associated with leptospirosis, the vaccine also prevents the animal from contaminating the environment and placing unvaccinated cattle and people at risk.
Ultravac 7in1 can be used from 6 weeks of age. This ensures early protection after two initial doses, without the need for expensive additional doses of vaccine to provide effective year long protection. A single annual dose is all that is required to provide on-going annual protection, without the need for six-monthly booster doses. Additional doses of Ultravac 5in1 may be required to maintain immunity to enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney). These are given prior to seasonal challenge and advice from your local veterinarian is recommended.

Ultravac 7in1 is registered for use in cattle to provide protection against seven serious diseases. The five clostridial diseases covered are: enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease), tetanus, black disease, malignant oedema (blackleg-like disease), and blackleg. The vaccine also protects against two serovars of leptospirosis — L. hardjo and L. pomona — which can cause reproductive losses in cattle and pose a genuine zoonotic risk to farmers, stockmen and veterinary staff who come into contact with infected animals or their urine.
Ultravac 7in1 is administered by subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. The standard dose is 5 mL per animal, giving approximately 40 doses from a 100 mL pack. Cattle can be vaccinated from 6 weeks of age, making early herd protection achievable without the need for additional products.
Primary course: Two doses are required, given 4–6 weeks apart, to establish initial immunity. An annual booster is then recommended to maintain protection. For leptospirosis, vaccination prior to natural exposure is essential to prevent urinary and reproductive tract shedding of leptospires. Always use a clean, sterile needle and syringe, and change needles regularly throughout the vaccination run to minimise tissue reaction and infection risk.
Key precautions: Shake the vaccine well before use. Store between 2°C and 8°C — do not freeze. Discard any unused vaccine after the session; do not return it to the vial. Vaccination of sick or stressed animals is not recommended. As with all vaccines, anaphylactic reactions can occur — have adrenaline on hand and observe animals for at least 30 minutes post-injection. Tips for Best Results
- Complete the primary course: Two doses 4–6 weeks apart are required for full protection — a single dose will not provide adequate immunity. Mark your calendar so the booster is not missed.
- Cold chain is critical: Store Ultravac 7in1 between 2°C and 8°C. Never freeze. Transport in an insulated cooler with ice bricks and keep out of direct sunlight during yarding and vaccination — heat kills vaccine antigens and a compromised vaccine will not protect your cattle.
- Vaccinate before risk periods: In the Gympie and South East Queensland region, leptospirosis risk is highest during and after wet seasons when waterlogged ground favours leptospire survival. Plan your vaccination program so cattle are fully protected before the wet arrives, not during it.
- Zoonotic risk — protect your people: Leptospirosis is a serious human health risk for anyone working with cattle — farm workers, dairy staff, jackaroos and vets. Vaccinating your herd with Ultravac 7in1 reduces urinary and reproductive tract shedding, directly lowering the risk to people on the property. Consider this part of your farm's workplace health and safety plan.
- Record keeping: Keep a written vaccination register recording the date, product batch number, expiry date, number of animals treated and the person who administered the vaccine. This is important for herd health management, property biosecurity records and NVD/LPA compliance.
- Note — this is a vaccine, not an antiparasitic drench: Ultravac 7in1 prevents infectious diseases, not worm burdens.
