Zoetis Ultravac 5in1 is used to prevent the major life threatening clostridial diseases that commonly occur in cattle and sheep.
For the prevention of:
Enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease),
Tetanus,
Black disease,
Malignant oedema (blackleg-like disease), including swelled head in rams and blackleg in cattle and sheep.
The Zoetis Advantage is unique, only Ultravac 5in1:
Uses an ultrafiltration technology.
Zoetis unique ultra-filtration process creates a more pure vaccine that stimulates a targeted response by the immune system.
It ensures rapid and effective protection against the dangerous clostridial diseases.
Can be used for up to 30 days after opening (provided storage instructions are followed).
This provides added convenience as this longevity enables the vaccine to easily fit in with farm management practices.
Has an ultrafiltered low volume dose.
The recommended dose is 2 mL for cattle and 1mL for sheep.
This means less fridge space is required and fewer vaccine bottle changes are needed when vaccinating large numbers of stock.
Ultravac 5in1 is also safe for all stages of pregnancy.
Dosage:
A booster dose given 12 months after the two basic doses of vaccine should confer lifelong immunity against blackleg and tetanus.
However, further annual boosters are required to maintain immunity against black disease and malignant oedema.
More regular doses may be required to maintain immunity against enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney). These are best given prior to seasonal challenge and advice from your local veterinarian is recommended.
Annual booster doses should be given around four weeks before calving or lambing to ensure that passive immunity is passed onto the new-born calf or lamb via the colostrum (first milk).
Storage:
Store at 2°C to 8°C (Refrigerate. Do not freeze).
It is important that the vaccine is kept properly mixed before and during use.
For subcutaneous use only.
Vaccine can be used for 30 days after opening providing correct storage instructions are followed.
This product can be stored and used for up to 30 days after first opening.
On each subsequent reuse, swab the opening with a suitable disinfectant (for example, methylated spirits) both before and after using.
A sterile needle must be used each time product is removed.
Store unused material upright, at 2°C to 8°C (refrigerated) and in the original cardboard packaging to protect from light.
Avoid Carcass Damage:
Sterilise all injection equipment by boiling in water for 10 minutes before use.
Avoid use of strong disinfectants.
Always maintain cleanliness during vaccination.
Great care must be taken to avoid contamination of the vaccine, needle and internal parts of the syringe by contact with unsterile surfaces or unwashed hands.
Keep needles sharp and clean.
Replace frequently.
Use the shortest possible needle, not exceeding 15 mm in length.
As far as possible avoid injection of the animals during wet weather or under dusty conditions.
This product must be injected only under the skin (subcutaneously).
If possible, inject high on the neck behind the ear, i.e. under the skin on the side of the neck (just behind and below the base of the ear).
Do not inject at any other site.

Target Diseases & Animals
Ultravac 5in1 is registered for use in cattle and sheep to prevent five major life-threatening clostridial diseases: Enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease), Tetanus, Black disease, Malignant oedema (a blackleg-like disease), and Blackleg. It also covers swelled head in rams. These diseases are caused by clostridial bacteria that can cause rapid, often fatal illness — making vaccination the most practical and cost-effective form of protection for Australian cattle and sheep producers.
Administration: Inject subcutaneously (under the skin) using clean, sterile equipment. Follow standard vaccination hygiene practices — use a new needle regularly and avoid contaminating the vial.
Dose rates: The recommended dose is 2 mL for cattle and 1 mL for sheep. Always refer to the product label for full dosing instructions, as individual circumstances may vary. For a primary vaccination course, two doses are required with an interval between them — refer to the label or consult your veterinarian for the recommended schedule.
Key precautions: Ultravac 5in1 is safe to use at all stages of pregnancy. Once opened, the vial can be used for up to 30 days provided correct cold-chain storage (2–8°C) is maintained throughout. Do not freeze. Keep out of direct sunlight. Consult your veterinarian regarding vaccination timing around periods of high seasonal challenge, particularly for enterotoxaemia. Always read the full product label before use.

Tips for Best Results
- Stick to your vaccination schedule — the two-dose primary course is essential to establish immunity. Missing or delaying the booster can leave stock vulnerable, particularly to pulpy kidney during high-risk periods such as flush spring or post-rain pasture growth.
- Cold chain is critical — store Ultravac 5in1 in the fridge between 2°C and 8°C. Never freeze. When working cattle or sheep in the paddock, use a vaccine esky with ice bricks and keep the vial out of direct sunlight. The 30-day in-use period is only valid if cold chain is maintained throughout.
- Use clean equipment — dirty or blunt needles increase the risk of injection site reactions and reduce vaccine efficacy. Change needles regularly, especially when processing large mobs, and never use chemical sterilants in the syringe as they can inactivate the vaccine.
- Vaccinate before the risk period — in South-East Queensland, pulpy kidney risk typically increases after rainfall events and rapid pasture growth. Time your booster shots ahead of these seasonal challenges rather than reacting after losses occur.
- Keep vaccination records — record the date, batch number, animals treated, and who administered the vaccine. Good records support your LPA/NLIS obligations and help you plan next year's program. Call TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 if you need help with scheduling or product availability.
