Pestigard is the first vaccine for the prevention of Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV), otherwise known as Bovine Pestivirus in cattle in Australia.
Pestigard is the only vaccine registered in Australia that prevents the highly contagious virus called pestivirus.
This virus can damage herd reproduction rates and cause immunosuppression in recently infected cattle.
Recommendations For Use:
For the active immunisation of cattle against BVDV and to reduce reproductive losses due to BVDV. For the prevention of nasal shedding of BVDV.

Pestigard is registered for use in cattle for the prevention of Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV), also known as Bovine Pestivirus. It is the only registered vaccine in Australia indicated to prevent nasal shedding of BVDV and to reduce reproductive losses caused by the virus. Pestigard also assists in reducing losses associated with the Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) complex and other clinical conditions where BVDV is implicated as a contributing factor.
Pestigard is administered by injection to cattle as part of a two-dose vaccination program consisting of a priming dose followed by a booster dose. The interval between the priming and booster dose can be extended up to 6 months, allowing the program to be conveniently integrated into existing herd management practices such as pregnancy testing, weaning, or pre-joining musters.
Always read the product label and accompanying directions before use. Dose strictly according to label instructions — do not under-dose. - Plan your Pestigard program around existing herd events — pre-joining or weaning musters are ideal opportunities to administer the priming dose, with the booster timed up to 6 months later for maximum convenience.
- Identify Persistently Infected (PI) animals in your herd before or alongside your vaccination program — PI cattle are the primary reservoir of BVDV and pose an ongoing infection risk to vaccinated animals. Work with your vet to test and remove PI animals for the best reproductive outcomes.
