Zoetis Equivac 2in1 Vaccine — for the immunisation of horses against tetanus, and strangles caused by Streptococcus equi.
A purified adjuvanted vaccine containing the formalinised toxin of Clostridium tetani (20 Lf/mL) and a sterile, cell-free extract of Streptococcus equi.
Dose: 1 mL by intramuscular injection; the most convenient site is the centre of the side of the neck. Primary immunisation: horses 3 months of age or older should be given three doses, with an interval between doses of not less than two weeks.
Tetanus at wounding or surgery: a single dose of Equivac 2in1 or Equivac T given to an unimmunised horse at the time of wounding or surgery may not prevent tetanus. For immediate short-term protection against tetanus, Equivac TAT (tetanus antitoxin) should be used.
Side effects: Localised swelling may occasionally develop at the site of injection. On rare occasions systemic signs have been observed following vaccination against strangles. This appears to occur when horses have been sensitised to Streptococcus equi by exposure to infection or when they are incubating the disease. Horses which show an abnormally severe reaction following vaccination should not receive further doses of vaccine containing a strangles component for twelve months; tetanus immunisation should be completed with Equivac T. Local reactions are more evident if the vaccine is injected subcutaneously. Provided the injection has been carried out aseptically, any swelling at the site of inoculation should resolve spontaneously.
Storage: store between 2°C and 8°C (refrigerate, do not freeze). Protect from light.
