Mount the gudgeon hinge to your gate post using the lag bolts provided, ensuring the hinge pin sits vertical and the gate hangs true. Attach the 450mm timber gate strap to the gate frame with the bolts supplied, aligning it so the strap wraps around the post without binding. Hang the gate on the hinge, check it swings freely without catching, and tighten all bolts firmly once you're satisfied with the hang. Tips: Use a spirit level when installing the gudgeon hinge—if it's even slightly out of plumb, your gate will sag or swing shut on its own. Don't over-tighten the bolts on timber gates; you'll split the wood, especially in old hardwood posts. Check your gate hang every few months during the wet season as timber moves with moisture changes.
