Target Pest

Controls buffalo fly (Haematobia irritans exigua) on beef and dairy cattle. Registered for use in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Supona can be applied via backrubber or as an overspray. Always read the registered product label in full before use.

Backrubber

Mix 1 litre of Supona concentrate per 20 litres of clean motor oil or mineral oil. Charge the backrubber to deliver approximately 20 mL of treated oil per animal, and recharge every three weeks through the buffalo fly season. DO NOT use the backrubber method on cattle producing milk for human consumption.

Overspray

Mix 20 mL of Supona per 1 litre of water (1:50 dilution). Apply 50 mL of diluted spray per 150 kg bodyweight, thoroughly wetting the animal. Repeat at intervals of not less than 21 days as required, to a maximum of 18 overspray treatments per year.

Restraint: Do not treat cattle concurrently with, or within 10 days of treatment with, other products containing organophosphates.

Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. The registered label supplied with the product is the legal document and takes precedence. If in doubt, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 or the manufacturer directly.

Tips for Best Results

  • Rotate chemical groups: buffalo fly can develop resistance to organophosphates — rotate with a product from a different chemical group across the season to preserve efficacy.
  • Treat early and keep to interval: start as fly numbers build and hold the label re-treatment interval (backrubber ~3 weeks; overspray ≥21 days).
  • Milk restriction: never use the backrubber method on cows producing milk for human consumption — use the overspray method (nil milk WHP) instead.
  • Organophosphate & DG caution: do not treat within 10 days of another organophosphate product. This is a Schedule 7 dangerous poison and a flammable liquid — store locked away from children, food and ignition sources, and wear the PPE specified on the label.
