Set one at every end, corner and gateway, and at any change of direction or slope — including the top of a rise and the bottom of a gully. On long straight runs, drop in an inline strainer roughly every 100 m, and closer where stock put extra pressure on the fence. Insert your Gripple joiner into the assembly and tension your wire using the Gripple's ratchet mechanism until you've got firm, even pressure across the fence line. Once tensioned, the assembly locks in place and you're done – no need for traditional methods like twisting wire or using come-alongs. Tips: Get your strainer post absolutely plumb before you bolt the assembly on – any lean will throw your tension off and put uneven stress on the wire. When using Gripples with this fitting, don't over-tension on the first pass; bring the wire up gradually over a couple of goes to avoid shocking the system and breaking wire or damaging the joiner. Check your tension again after a couple of weeks once everything's settled, as wire can relax slightly before it beds in properly.
