Mount the energiser in a dry location sheltered from direct rain, though solar models need good sun exposure. Run the positive and negative terminals to your fence line, ensuring the negative terminal is connected to a solid earth stake driven at least 1 metre into moist soil away from the fence. Check that all connections are tight and free of corrosion, then switch on and test the fence with a voltage meter to confirm it's running above 2000 volts. Tips: Keep vegetation trimmed back from your fence line — weeds and long grass will leech charge and reduce your effective range, especially in wet conditions. In dry seasons, water around your earth stake to improve conductivity and keep the fence performing at its best. Check your battery level regularly on solar units and top up the backup battery before winter when days are shorter.
