Mount the S-185B outdoors over the top of a star post where the solar panel gets full sun (angle the panel north) — the enclosure is O-ring sealed for outdoor use. Connect the fence (live) terminal to your fence conductor and the earth terminal to your earth system: drive an earth stake into moist ground and connect it to the earth terminal (in dry or sandy conditions add extra earth stakes and an earth-return wire as the manual advises). Do not run the live fence wire back to the earth stake — the circuit is completed through the animal and the soil, not by joining live to earth. Keep vegetation cleared from the fence line to prevent energy loss. Tips: Check your earth stake regularly, especially after dry spells — poor earthing kills your fence performance faster than anything else. In Queensland heat, keep the solar panel clean and angled to the sun; a dusty panel loses serious output when you need it most. If you're running a long perimeter, start with a smaller mob to test your setup before committing the whole herd.
