Install the gate between two sturdy posts set at least 1.1 metres high, ensuring posts are concreted in and square to the ground. Hang the gate using quality hinges rated for the weight, and fit the latching mechanism so it closes smoothly without forcing. Check that both panels operate freely and the gate swings back securely — you don't want stock pushing through a gate that doesn't close properly. Tips: Keep the hinges and latch points greased regularly, especially in our wet season, to prevent rust and sticking on the stainless steel components. Set your posts with a slight backward lean away from where the gate swings — this helps the gate swing shut under its own weight rather than hanging open and letting stock through. Make sure the ground under the gate is level and solid; low spots let sheep crawl underneath, which defeats the purpose.
