Gallagher S30 Lithium Solar Fence Energizer
The Gallagher S30 Lithium Solar Fence Energizer is a compact and highly portable solar energizer designed for strip grazing, rotational grazing and smaller electric fence systems where mains power is not available.
It combines a built-in lithium iron phosphate battery with a high-efficiency solar panel and Gallagher’s adaptive energy control technology to provide dependable fence power day and night. The lightweight design and integrated carry handle make it easy to move between paddocks, while the weather-resistant enclosure and built-in lightning protection are designed for Australian farm conditions.
The S30 provides 0.3 joules stored energy and 0.21 joules output energy, with Gallagher recommending it for approximately 1.2 km of multiwire fencing, or up to 3 km under ideal conditions. LED indicators provide a quick indication of fence and battery performance.
Key features include:
- 0.3 J stored energy / 0.21 J output

A practical choice for temporary fencing, rotational grazing and smaller off-grid electric fence installations
The Gallagher S30 is a fully integrated portable solar energiser — lithium (LiFePO4) battery, 3.8W solar panel and energiser in one compact 1.38kg unit. It powers up to 1.2km of fence in typical conditions (up to 3km in ideal conditions) with a maximum output of 9.3kV / 0.3J stored energy — suited to strip grazing, temporary paddocks and small permanent runs.
Setting Up
Position the unit facing north with the solar panel in full sun and clear of shading vegetation. Mount it on a steel post, timber post or sit it on the ground using the integrated mount — the carry handle doubles as a hanger. Charge the battery fully in sunlight before first use for best performance.
Connecting
Drive the earth stake into moist ground where possible and connect it to the energiser's earth terminal (green). Connect the red fence lead to your fence line. A poor earth is the most common cause of low fence voltage — in dry or sandy ground, add an extra earth stake or relocate to damper soil.
Running
The LED indicators show fence voltage and battery status at a glance. Intelligent adaptive energy control automatically winds the pulse back to conserve charge through extended overcast periods — the lithium battery will run the fence for up to three weeks without sun. Check fence voltage periodically with a fence tester and keep the line clear of heavy vegetation loading.
Common Questions
How much fence will the S30 power?
Up to 1.2km of multi-wire fence in typical conditions, or up to 3km in ideal conditions (clean fence, good earth, low vegetation). Output is 0.3J stored / 0.21J delivered with a maximum of 9.3kV — ideal for strip grazing and temporary paddocks up to about 1.5 hectares.
Does it run off-grid?
Yes — completely. The lithium iron phosphate battery and integrated 3.8W solar panel make it fully self-sufficient, and the battery will keep the fence powered for up to three weeks without sun.
How does it compare to the S20?
The S30 is the next step up — more stored energy (0.3J vs 0.2J) for longer runs and heavier vegetation, in the same compact portable format. If you're powering more than a couple of paddock breaks, the S30 is the better pick.
Can I leave it out in the weather?
Yes. It has a water-resistant, dual-insulated case with built-in lightning protection, and at 1.38kg with an integrated carry handle it's easy to shift between paddocks for rotational grazing.
