Position the 5100L tank on level, well-drained ground in a location with partial shade to minimise algae growth and water heating. Install a float valve at the top to automatically maintain water level and prevent overflow. Ensure the tank is secure and stable before filling, and provide adequate trough face space of 0.75m per cow for dairy operations to allow comfortable access for all animals. Connect water supply via the inlet and regularly monitor water levels, especially during hot Queensland summers when cattle consumption can reach 100L per day. Tips: Clean the tank monthly and remove any algae buildup by scrubbing internal surfaces; periodically disinfect with an approved livestock-safe disinfectant to maintain water quality. Position the tank where it receives morning sun but afternoon shade, and consider rotating its location every season to prevent ground compaction and support rotational grazing practices. In summer months, monitor water temperature and quality more frequently, as heat accelerates algae growth—adding shade cloth or relocating to shadier areas can help keep water cooler and fresher.
