Position the 1100L tank on level, well-drained ground in a location with partial shade to minimise algae growth and water heating. Install a float valve at the inlet to automatically maintain water levels and prevent overflow. Ensure the trough is easily accessible to livestock and positioned at least 0.75m of trough face per cow in dairy operations. Connect to your rainwater system or mains water supply via the inlet connection. Tips: Place the trough in a paddock with afternoon shade to keep water cooler during Queensland summers, reducing algae development and heat stress on cattle. Clean the trough monthly and disinfect periodically to prevent algae buildup, which thrives in warm, sunny conditions. Monitor water consumption during hot weather—cattle can drink up to 100L daily in summer heat, so ensure adequate trough capacity for your herd size.
