Install the 550L tank on level, well-drained ground in a location that receives partial shade to minimise algae growth and water heating. Position the trough to allow easy access for cattle and ensure 0.75m of trough face space per cow in dairy operations. Fit a float valve to the inlet to automatically maintain water levels and prevent overflow. Connect to your rainwater system or water supply and check connections are secure before allowing livestock access. Tips: Place the trough in partial shade during Queensland summers to keep water cooler and reduce algae blooms—cattle drink up to 100L per day in hot weather, so ensure adequate capacity for your herd size. Clean the trough monthly and disinfect periodically to remove algae buildup and maintain water quality. Monitor water consumption during temperature rises; consumption can nearly double with a 10°C increase, so lactating cows and larger herds may need additional troughs.

Common Questions

What size is this rainwater tank and where can I put it?

This is a 550 litre tank with a low profile design. It's 910 mm tall and 1050 mm in diameter, so it suits smaller spaces while still giving you decent water storage. The corrugated design looks good and fits the Australian style. It comes with built-in lifting lugs to make positioning easier.

Is the water safe to drink from this tank?

Yes. The tank is manufactured from food-grade UV stabilised polyethylene, so your drinking water is free of fibre, taste and odour. It comes with an inlet strainer and dust cover to keep the water clean and stop algae growing.

What's included with the tank?

You get an inlet strainer and dust cover, two 1½" outlets for connecting your downpipes or linking tanks together, a 90 mm overflow kit (unfitted, so you can plumb it with standard 90 mm storm water pipe), and a ¾" tap.

Will this tank last in the Australian sun?

Yes. It's made from Australian-made UV stabilised polyethylene with sun protection technology built in, so it's designed to handle the harsh Australian sun without degrading over the long term. The computerised manufacturing also ensures maximum wall thickness at the base for structural strength.
