Slide the cap over the top of your 100mm round pipe and tap it down firmly until it sits flush — a rubber mallet works better than a hammer to avoid denting the galvanising. Make sure the pipe end is cut square before fitting, otherwise the cap won't seal properly and water will get in, which speeds up rust from the inside out. If you're using it on a post that's already in the ground, you might need to use a bit of downward pressure or a small lever to get it seated fully. Tips: Keep a spare cap or two in the ute — they're cheap to have on hand and you'll kick yourself if you need to replace a post because water got inside the pipe and rotted it from within.
