Lay the poly pipe in a trench at least 300mm deep to protect from stock trampling and UV damage. Connect sections using barb fittings with stainless steel clamps, ensuring a secure seal by pushing the pipe fully onto the barb until it seats properly. For above-ground installations, use compression fittings to allow easy disconnection and maintenance. Flush the entire line with clean water before connecting to livestock troughs to remove any debris. Tips: Always buy stainless steel clamps rather than galvanised, as they won't corrode in wet conditions and will last as long as your poly pipe. In hot weather, lay out the pipe in the sun for 10-15 minutes before connecting to allow it to warm and become more flexible, making fittings easier to install. Check clamps annually, especially after winter, as soil movement and temperature changes can loosen connections.
