Sow USA Ryegrass Tetila seed at 20–25 kg/ha during April–June in the Gympie region, with March sowing possible in cooler hinterland areas. Apply 60–100 kg/ha MAP or DAP at sowing to provide essential phosphorus and nitrogen for establishment. Use the anchor test before first grazing: pull a plant at grazing height—if it remains firmly in the ground, livestock can safely graze. Implement rotational grazing, allowing the ryegrass to reach 2.5–3 leaf stage before grazing, then rest to recharge carbohydrates for vigorous regrowth. Tips: Sow Tetila ryegrass alone or with vetch for best results; avoid mixing with modern perennial ryegrasses as Italian types are too competitive. Oversow into run-down summer pastures in autumn to bridge the winter feed gap and maximise productivity. Tetraploid varieties like Tetila are highly palatable with larger leaves and require higher sowing rates than diploid types. Monitor soil moisture during establishment to ensure quick, even germination across your paddock.
