Siberian Millet is a warm-season annual grass and a foxtail type millet.

It is a shorter variety that is commonly planted as a single-cut hay millet.

It works well grown as a forage in very dry conditions or in northern climates with a short growing season.

It produces hay that will cure easily and be palatable for livestock.

Siberian Millet is very drought tolerant and will grow rapidly during hot summer conditions.

Features:

Fast growing summer grass
Safe, good quality feed
Excellent regrowth after cutting
Plant on 14 degrees Celsius soil temperatures and rising
Multiple cuts per season
Quick grazing rotation and excellent companion for other summer forage species

Sow Siberian millet between October and January when soil temperature exceeds 20°C at a rate of 5–15 kg/ha, either broadcast or drilled. Water in after sowing if conditions are dry. Allow plants to establish and reach a minimum height of 30 cm before grazing to reduce prussic acid risk. This fast-growing summer annual will be ready for grazing within 6–8 weeks under ideal conditions. Tips: Siberian millet is particularly suited to sandy and acid soils where other millets may struggle, and matures earlier than Japanese varieties. Choose Shirohie for high-quality, broad-leafed forage or Pearler hybrid for superior yield. Use as emergency dry-season grazing or drought feed when pasture quality declines.
