PER KG LAB LAB HIGHWORTH (AUG-JAN) 181245 at a glance

Suitable for hay, green manure (mulch)

Excellent ground-cover crop

Provides an annual high-yield harvest

Excellent recovery after grazing

Sow lablab between October and January when soil temperature exceeds 20°C into paddocks with good moisture. Drill or broadcast seed at 10–15 kg/ha at 30–50 mm depth into prepared seedbed. CRITICAL: Inoculate all seed with Cowpea group (CB) Rhizobium before sowing to ensure nitrogen fixation and plant establishment. Allow 8–10 weeks from sowing to first grazing. Tips: Highworth variety is recommended for SE Queensland due to earlier maturity and tolerance of wider soil ranges including more acidic soils. Inoculation with CB Rhizobium is non-negotiable — poor nodulation will result in weak growth and loss of the nitrogen-fixing benefit. Introduce cattle gradually (2–5 days) and maintain grass on headlands as cattle acquire taste. Manage bloat risk on lush lablab by ensuring roughage access and rotational grazing.
