PER KG CARPET GRASS CTD (25) UPPER MURRAY SEEDS OR DLF CARPGRACTD at a glance

Carpet grass is a creeping, perennial, warm season grass.

It has wide leaves with blunt, rounded tips and forms a dense mat which crowds out most other species.

Carpet grass is best suited to Sub Tropical/Tropical regions and will thrive in low fertility areas, making it ideal for parks, roadsides, and Golf Course roughs.

Like other warm-season grasses it is dormant in winter.

It tolerates shade fairly well and does not become as spongy as buffalo or kikuyu.

Generally, carpet grass is suited to warm coastal and subtropical climates.

Carpet grass seed is sometimes available but it is usually established from runners.

Surface sow carpet grass seed at 4–6 kg/ha during the optimal sowing window of October to January. Use coated seed for better coverage and easier handling. For best results, prepare a firm seedbed and keep the area moist until establishment is well underway. This grass germinates and establishes readily in moist conditions typical of SE Queensland's coastal lowlands. Tips: Carpet grass thrives in shaded areas under timber and orchards where other subtropical grasses struggle. It performs exceptionally well in moist, poorly drained soils and is highly persistent in difficult growing conditions. While production is lower than Rhodes or signal grass, its tolerance of heavy shade and waterlogged areas makes it ideal for challenging sites. Use for soil conservation on banks and roadsides, or for grazing in horse and cattle paddocks across coastal SE Queensland.
