Tetila annual ryegrass is traditional annual ryegrass with good growth over late autumn, winter and early spring.

Tetila is best suited as a specialist winter crop when the budget comes in mind and you know there will be reliable late winter and early spring soil moisture.

Tetila annual ryegrass can be sown with shaftal or balansa clovers to improve it’s forage quality.

Minimum sowing rate of 25kg/ha and can be sown up 45kg/ha for a thick pasture/silage crop.

Sowing rate:
25-50kg/ha

Peak growth periods:
Late autumn, winter and early spring

Sow Tetila ryegrass during April–May in the Gympie region at 25–40 kg/ha as a straight winter crop (or 20–25 kg/ha when sown with a legume), ideally with 60–100 kg/ha MAP or DAP to establish strong root development and early vigour. Prepare a firm, weed-free seedbed and ensure good soil moisture at sowing. Apply the anchor test before first grazing: pull a plant at grazing height; if it remains firmly in the ground, it is ready to graze. Tips: Use rotational grazing at the 2.5–3 leaf stage to maximise productivity and allow adequate rest for carbohydrate recovery between rotations. Tetila is ideal for oversowing into run-down summer pastures to fill winter feed gaps in SE Queensland. Avoid sowing with modern perennial ryegrasses or other species, as Italian ryegrass is highly competitive and will dominate. Common Questions

What is Tetila ryegrass best for?

Tetila is a tetraploid annual (Italian) ryegrass suited as a specialist winter crop. It has good growth over late autumn, winter and early spring, so it works well when you have reliable soil moisture in those cooler months and want to keep costs down.

How much do I need to sow?

Sow at 25–40 kg/ha as a straight winter ryegrass crop. When sown with a legume such as balansa or shaftal clover, use 20–25 kg/ha. As a tetraploid, Tetila has larger seed (fewer seeds per kg) than a diploid ryegrass, so these higher rates are needed to achieve an adequate plant population.

Can I mix Tetila with clover?

Yes, Tetila annual ryegrass can be sown with shaftal or balansa clovers to improve forage quality.
