PER BAG FORAGE SORGHUM LUSH 20KG BAG HSR SEED NUSEED (EQ: ASTRO) at a glance

When quick and plentiful feed is needed, Lush lends itself to intensive grazing and is reliable and proven across all summer forage areas of Australia.

Lush is one of the most popular forage sorghums in Australia. It is a fine stemmed, leafy, highly productive, quick forage, that responds to intensive management.

Features:

Sorghum x sudan grass
Lower prussic acid levels
Fine stemmed, especially at higher planting rates
Very leafy forage with excellent leaf to stem ratio
Suits intensive grazing and high stocking rates
Ideal for early grazing
Makes excellent hay due to high leaf ratio and regrowth ability

Suggested sowing rates:

Marginal dryland: 3 – 5 kg/ha
Good dryland: 8 – 10 kg/ha
Irrigated: 15 – 25 kg/ha

Sow Lush forage sorghum from October to January when soil temperature is consistently above 18°C (ideally 20–25°C) into good soil moisture. Drill at 8–12 kg/ha in rows 50–75 cm apart, or broadcast at 10–15 kg/ha, at a depth of 20–40 mm for optimal germination. Allow 6–8 weeks of vigorous growth until plants reach 60–80 cm tall before first grazing; never graze younger plants due to dangerous prussic acid (HCN) levels that can rapidly poison livestock. Continue rotational grazing through summer and autumn until the first frost ends the season. Tips: Lush sorghum is the highest-yielding summer annual forage crop for SE and central Queensland and will produce multiple grazings if managed correctly. Always ensure stock have access to other roughage to prevent bloat from the high-moisture feed. After frost or drought stress, wait a minimum of 5–7 days before grazing regrowth. The treated seed (Thiram filmcoat) protects against seedling disease and is recommended for best establishment.
