ORCHID MIX ROCKY POINT 30 L
Rocky Point Orchid Mix is a lightweight, coarse and free-draining growing medium specially formulated for orchids that require excellent airflow around their roots and rapid drainage. It is suitable for both epiphytic and terrestrial orchids and is used by professional orchid growers.
?? Suitable orchids
It is suitable for many commonly grown orchid varieties, including:
- Phalaenopsis (Moth Orchids)
- Cattleya
- Dendrobium
- Oncidium
- Cymbidium
- Other orchids requiring an open, well-aerated growing medium.
? Key benefits
- Excellent drainage – helps prevent waterlogging around delicate orchid roots.
- Excellent aeration – the open structure allows air to reach the roots.
- Lightweight – suitable for long-term growing in pots and containers.
- Long-term growing medium – designed to maintain a suitable structure around orchid roots.
- Added trace elements and minerals to support plant growth.
- Added granular wetting agent, helping the mix accept water more evenly.
- Suitable for indoor and outdoor orchids, depending on the variety and growing conditions.
- Used by professional orchid growers.
?? How to use
Rocky Point states that the mix is ready to use straight from the bag, so additional material does not need to be added when potting.
For repotting:
- Select a pot that comfortably accommodates the orchid's root system and has adequate drainage holes.
- Remove the orchid from its old pot.
- Remove old growing media and any soft or dead roots.
- Place a small amount of Orchid Mix in the bottom of the pot.
- Position the orchid appropriately in the centre.
- Gently work the Orchid Mix between and around the roots.
- Fill to approximately 10 mm below the top of the pot.
- Press the mix down gently rather than compacting it heavily.
- Water lightly.
- Place the orchid somewhere well ventilated.
?? Growing position
For indoor orchids, Rocky Point recommends a well-ventilated position. Many orchids prefer filtered light and periods of shade, although the exact light requirement depends on the variety. Too much direct light can cause problems, while insufficient light can reduce flowering.
For outdoor planting, choose a shady, well-ventilated location away from hot direct sun.
?? Product size
Rocky Point Orchid Mix is available in a 30 L bag. It is certified to Australian Standard AS 3743 as a Regular Grade Potting Mix.
?? Other uses
The coarse, well-drained nature of the mix also makes it useful for bromeliads, particularly varieties that benefit from a coarse growing medium with good drainage. Rocky Point specifically recommends its Orchid Mix for orchids and bromeliads.
