Introduce cattle gradually using a salt-only lick for 7-10 days before offering the urea lick to allow rumen adaptation. Place the lick in a dedicated feeding area away from water sources, ensuring cattle do not drink then immediately gorge on the block. Provide ad libitum access to dry roughage (hay or dry pasture) and fresh water at a separate location. Monitor intake daily and adjust placement or add additional salt if consumption exceeds safe levels (40-80g urea per head per day for cattle). Tips: NEVER introduce hungry or starving cattle to urea licks — they will overconsume and risk toxicity. Always ensure adequate dry grass or hay is available to maintain healthy rumen pH and prevent ammonia accumulation. Position water troughs away from the lick to prevent cattle drinking then immediately consuming excessive amounts of the supplement.
