Surefire Trepidex 500 Insecticide is an emulsifiable concentrate formulation providing useful control of many pests including those that affect tropical & sub-tropical crops, such as macadamia and avocados.
On turf and lawn, Trepidex 500 will also control Lawn Grub and Lawn Armyworm.
Trepidex is registered for fruit spotting bugs and monolepta beetles in Avocados.
It is a group 1B insecticide with the active ingredient Trichlorfon formulated for the control of chewing insects.
Trepidex 500 is also registered for Queensland Fruit Fly, Cutworm, Lace Bug, Rutherglen Bug and Green Vegetable Bug in a range of horticultural crops.
When used correctly, Trepidex 500 will not significantly impact beneficial insects or bees.

Water quality plays a very important role in the use of Surefire Trepidex 500 Insecticide because of the potential for alkaline hydrolysis.
Most pesticides perform best in slightly acidic conditions.
Problems can eventuate when the water used for spray applications is alkaline (for example, bore water or water out of concrete tanks).
In alkaline water, some chemicals degrade rapidly through irreversible chemical reactions, commonly referred to as alkaline hydrolysis.

Surefire Trepidex 500 (Cypermethrin 500 g/L) provides contact and residual control of a broad range of chewing and sucking insect pests across crops, vegetables and fruit trees, including: aphids, armyworm, budworm, caterpillars (various species), diamondback moth larvae, heliothis (Helicoverpa spp.), light brown apple moth, loopers, mites (suppression), rutherglen bug, silverleaf whitefly (suppression), thrips, two-spotted mite (suppression), web moth and other lepidopteran larvae. Refer to the product label for the full registered pest and crop matrix applicable to your situation.
Surefire Trepidex 500 is a suspension concentrate containing 500 g/L Cypermethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide for use on a range of crops, vegetables and fruit trees. Always read the full product label before use and mix according to the rate specified for your target pest and crop. Partially fill the spray tank with clean water, add the required amount of product, then top up to the final volume while agitating continuously. Maintain agitation throughout spraying to ensure an even mix.
Apply as a thorough foliar spray using ground rig or overhead equipment, ensuring good canopy coverage including undersides of leaves where pests may shelter. Calibrate your sprayer before use to confirm accurate delivery. Application timing is critical — treat at first sign of pest activity or at economic threshold levels to achieve the best knockdown and residual control.
Do not apply if rain is expected within one to two hours, as wash-off will significantly reduce efficacy. Avoid application during strong winds to minimise spray drift onto neighbouring crops, waterways or non-target areas. Always observe the withholding period (WHP) and re-entry interval (REI) as stated on the product label before harvesting or re-entering treated areas.
This is a Schedule 6 poison — wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) specified on the label during mixing and application, including chemical-resistant gloves, goggles and appropriate clothing. Keep out of reach of children and store securely away from feed and foodstuffs.

Tips for Best Results
- Apply at the right growth stage: Treat young, early-instar larvae for best results — Cypermethrin is most effective against small caterpillars and newly hatched pests before feeding damage escalates.
- Time applications wisely: Spray in the cooler parts of the day (early morning or late afternoon) to reduce chemical breakdown from heat and UV, and to avoid stressing crops during high temperatures common in Queensland summers.
- Manage insecticide resistance: Cypermethrin is a Group 3A (pyrethroid) insecticide. Rotate with insecticides from a different mode-of-action group (e.g. Group 1A, 4A or 6) each spray cycle to slow resistance development, particularly in heliothis and diamondback moth populations.
- Ensure thorough coverage: Use adequate water volumes and a nozzle type suited to penetrating dense canopies. Poor coverage is the most common reason for reduced efficacy — adjust spray pressure and nozzle spacing accordingly.
- Protect beneficial insects and waterways: Cypermethrin is highly toxic to bees and aquatic invertebrates. Avoid spraying during bloom or when bees are actively foraging, and maintain the required buffer distance from waterways, drains and dams as specified on the label. Store product in original container in a cool, dry, locked location away from direct sunlight.
