Feeding and soaking
MultiCube recommendsintroducing the cubes gradually over approximately 14 days. Initially, they should be soaked before feeding. The manufacturer's recommended starting ratio is approximately1 part cubes to 1 part water, using either cold or warm water until the cubes are properly softened.
After the horse has adjusted over the 14-day introduction period, the amount of water can gradually be reduced if you wish to feed them dry. They can also continue to be fed soaked if that is preferable for the individual horse.
For an older horse or one with dental problems,soaking is particularly useful, as it turns the compressed cubes into a soft forage mash that is easier to chew and swallow.
How much should you feed?
MultiCube recommends feeding forageby weight rather than by volume. As a general guideline, horses require a minimum of approximately1.5% of their body weight in forage per day. For example:
300 kg pony:minimum about4.5 kg forage/day
500 kg horse:minimum about7.5 kg forage/day
These are general forage requirements, not necessarily the exact amount of MultiCube cubes your horse should receive. Pasture intake, existing hay, workload, age, body condition and other feeds all need to be considered when determining the final ration.
