Place the mineral lick block in a accessible location where cattle can freely access it as needed. Position one block per 20-30 head of cattle to ensure adequate availability without wastage. The block will be consumed gradually as animals lick it to meet their mineral requirements. Allow ad-lib access throughout the year, particularly during periods of feed scarcity when deficiency risk is highest. Tips: Monitor consumption regularly—healthy intake indicates the block is meeting your herd's mineral needs, while very high or very low consumption may signal deficiency issues or palatability problems. Position blocks on well-drained ground away from water sources to minimise deterioration, and ensure they remain dry between rain events. Keep mineral blocks away from sheep to prevent copper toxicity, as cattle formulations are not suitable for ovine livestock.
