LIGHTNING SPARK GAP DIVERTER THUNDERBIRD EF-10A at a glance

Save your electric fence energiser from damage caused by lightening surges.

Adjustable to suit all energisers.

Install the earth stake vertically into moist soil at least 1.2 metres deep, or deeper if you're in sandy country. Connect the spark gap diverter between your fence line and the earth stake using the clamp provided, making sure all connections are tight. Run a conductor wire from the diverter to ground, and test the earth resistance with a meter before you trust it with livestock. Tips: Drive your earth stake in during or just after rain when the soil's moist — you'll get better conductivity than trying to punch through hard, dry ground. If you're in particularly dry or sandy soil, consider installing two stakes and connecting them in parallel to drop your earth resistance. Keep the spark gap clean and check your connections twice a year, especially before storm season.
