Lightning coming in contact with the insulated live wire and travelling back towards the energiser—slows down due to the choke spring and allows the spike to dissipate through the arrestor to earth.

Install the kit on the first run of fencing 30 metres away from the energiser’s earth system.

It is important that the earth system for the lightning kit be as good or better than the earth system used for the energiser.

To maximise protection of your energiser— disconnect fence and earth wires from energiser, and unplug from power point during electrical storms.

Install a mains surge filter to avoid spikes damaging your energiser coming through the A.C. supply.

Install the earthing stake at least 1 metre from your fence line, driving it fully into the ground until the top sits flush or slightly below soil level. Attach the earth clamp securely to the stake, then run the lightning diverter wire from your energiser to the clamp, making sure all connections are tight and free of corrosion. The super earth kit components should all be connected in series to create a complete path to ground, with no loose or corroded joints anywhere in the system. Tips: Wet the soil around your earth stake before driving it in – it goes in easier and creates better earth contact, especially important in dry Queensland conditions. Check your earth clamp and connections every few months because corrosion will kill your lightning protection faster than anything else, so keep terminals clean and tight. If you're in sandy or poorly conductive soil, drive your stake deeper and consider installing a second stake 2 metres away, then link them together for a stronger earth system.
