Apply each NLIS ear tag to a clean, healthy ear using a dedicated NLIS applicator. Insert the applicator pin through the button on the orange male tag and align with the corresponding female tag component. Position the applicator in the middle third of the ear between the cartilage ridges, avoiding the ear vein visible on the inside of the ear. Apply in a single firm squeeze of the applicator handles. Tips: Always use a dedicated NLIS applicator in good condition — worn or dirty applicators cause painful poor applications and higher tag loss. Disinfect the applicator tip between animals to reduce infection risk. Apply tags as early in the animal's life as is practical for your management system. Register all tags applied in your herd with the NLIS database as required by Queensland biosecurity legislation.
