Slide the wide jaw claw onto your timber post and tighten the clamping mechanism firmly to prevent any movement or twisting. Thread your electric fence wire or tape through the insulator channel, making sure it sits properly in the groove without kinks or sharp bends. Check that the insulator is making full contact with the post and that nothing metal is bridging between the wire and the post, as this will drain your charge straight to earth. Tips: Keep your insulators clean and free from grass, dirt, and moisture buildup — a dirty insulator leaks energy faster than a faulty charger. Space them consistently along your posts (usually 1-1.5 metres apart on timber) so your wire stays at an even height and tension, which stops stock from pushing through or getting caught. Don't over-tighten the clamping jaw or you'll crack timber posts; firm and snug is all you need.
