Drive the steel post into the ground using a post driver or sledgehammer until it's firm and won't move when you push on it. Slide the insulated cap over the top of the post, making sure it's seated fully so the electrical connection is secure. Attach your electric fencing wire or tape to the cap's contact point, and connect to your energiser via the main fence line. Check the cap is tight after a few weeks as ground settling can loosen it. Tips: Keep the cap clean and free from grass or dirt touching the metal contact point, as this will short your fence and waste power. In hot weather, the white colour helps reduce heat absorption at the top of the post, which can extend the life of the insulation. Always use a proper post driver rather than hammering directly on the cap, as impact damage will compromise the insulation.
