HORSLYX DIGESTION MINERAL LICK 650G
Digestion Balancer is a high-density complementary feed/lick for horses, ponies and donkeys. It is formulated to provide nutritional support from the stomach through to the hindgut, while encouraging the horse to lick slowly rather than consume a large meal at once.
The product is particularly intended for:
- Horses prone to digestive upsets
- Horses that develop digestive problems during diet or forage changes
- Horses that experience loose droppings
- Horses that need digestive support while taking certain medications
- Older horses or poor doers that struggle to maintain condition
- Horses prone to gastric ulcers, when fed as part of an appropriate overall diet
- Fussy feeders, because it has a spiced apple flavour
- Horses that spend significant periods stabled and need something to occupy them
- Older horses with poor dentition that struggle with conventional hard feed
How it supports digestion
Horslyx uses several different approaches to digestive support.
1. Licking and saliva production
The lick format means the horse has to lick the product gradually. Licking stimulates saliva production, and saliva helps naturally buffer stomach acid. This can be useful because horses produce stomach acid continuously.
2. Slippery Elm
Slippery Elm bark (Ulmus rubra) provides mucilage, a soluble-fibre material that can absorb moisture and form a coating. Horslyx includes it as part of its digestive-support formulation, particularly for supporting the stomach and digestive tract.
3. Seaweed meal
Seaweed meal from Ascophyllum nodosum is another source of mucilage and is included alongside Slippery Elm.
4. MOS prebiotic
The product contains mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) from yeast. This is a prebiotic ingredient intended to support a favourable environment for beneficial gut microorganisms, particularly during periods when the intestinal microbial population may be disturbed by dietary changes.
5. Actisaf live yeast
Horslyx Digestion Balancer contains Actisaf, a live probiotic yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). The manufacturer states that it supports healthy digestive function and provides buffering support in the hindgut. Because this type of probiotic does not permanently colonise the hindgut, the manufacturer recommends daily feeding for continued effect.
6. Magnesium
The Digestion Balancer has a relatively high magnesium level and is formulated to be low in starch compared with many conventional feeds.
