Target Parasites & Animals

Worma Drench is registered for use in horses and cattle (dairy and beef). In horses, it controls mature and immature stages of Bloodworm (Strongylus vulgaris), including the harmful migrating tissue stages (55–88% activity) with a corresponding reduction in arterial lesions; Large Strongyles/Redworms including migratory tissue stages of S. edentatus; Large Roundworm (Parascaris equorum); Pinworms; Small Redworms (Small Strongyles/Cyathostome species susceptible to oxfendazole); and mature Stomach Worms (Habronema microstoma).

Obtain an accurate body weight using a weight tape before dosing, as underdosing is a primary cause of drench resistance. Administer the entire syringe contents orally by placing the paste into the back of the horse's mouth, ensuring full administration. For best practice parasite management, conduct a faecal egg count (FEC) before treatment to determine if worming is necessary rather than using calendar-based dosing. Always follow the product label instructions and withholding periods. Tips: Rotate between different active ingredient classes (macrocyclic lactones, benzimidazoles, and pyrimidines) based on FEC results and veterinary advice to prevent drench resistance — avoid the outdated every-8-week calendar rotation. If your horse requires tapeworm treatment, use a product containing praziquantel, as this wormer does not cover tapeworms. Store the drench as directed on the label and check the expiry date before use. Tips for Best Results

  • Weigh animals accurately — use a weigh scale rather than estimating. Under-dosing is a leading contributor to drench resistance, and even experienced stockpeople regularly underestimate bodyweight.
  • Drench resistance awareness — Worma Drench contains oxfendazole, a benzimidazole (white drench). Benzimidazole resistance is widespread in small strongyles (cyathostomes) and other horse worm populations across Australia. Consider using a DrenchCheck (faecal egg count reduction test) to confirm efficacy on your property before relying on this product as your primary wormer.
  • Rotation and refugia — rotate between drench classes (benzimidazole, macrocyclic lactone, pyrimidine) as part of a planned resistance management strategy. WormBoss recommends maintaining a proportion of the herd or mob untreated (refugia) where appropriate, to dilute the selection pressure for resistant worms. Avoid treating every animal every time unless FEC or clinical signs warrant it.
  • Storage — store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and away from feed and foodstuffs.
  • Record keeping — record the date of treatment, product used, batch number, animals treated, dose administered, and withholding period applied. Good records help track rotation history and support resistance management decisions over time.

Common Questions

What animals is Worma Drench registered for?

Worma Drench is registered for horses and cattle (both dairy and beef).

What internal parasites does it control?

In horses, Worma Drench controls large strongyles (redworms), large roundworms, pinworms, small strongyles, bloodworm, and mature stomach worms. For specific parasite coverage in cattle, refer to the product label. The label will detail all registered parasites and the life stages controlled.

How do I administer Worma Drench?

Worma Drench is an oral drench that can be administered using accurate drenching equipment, a disposable syringe, stomach tube, or by mixing thoroughly into feed. Always follow the application method and instructions on the registered product label.

Why is the label and SDS important?

The registered product label contains critical safety information, application rates, withholding periods, and specific directions for your animal and situation. The SDS provides health and safety data. Always read both before use. If you have questions about dosing or safety, contact your veterinarian or agronomist, or call TGRM on (07) 5482 1692.

Should I rotate wormers?

Yes, rotating between different classes of oral anthelmintics is an important part of responsible parasite management and helps slow the development of resistance. Your veterinarian can advise on a rotation strategy suitable for your animals and property.
