Ensure the poly pipe inner diameter matches the fitting size in imperial measurements (typically 3/4", 1", 1.25", 1.5", or 2"). For barb fittings, slide the pipe onto the barb and secure with two stainless steel hose clamps (one near the barb end, one further along the pipe). Check that your system pressure does not exceed 800kPa, which is the maximum working pressure for rural poly pipe. Always cut the pipe square with a sharp knife or pipe cutter before inserting into any fitting. Tips: Use stainless steel clamps for all barb connections to prevent corrosion in Queensland's climate and ensure a long-lasting seal. For easier future disconnections, choose compression fittings at key points rather than solvent weld, which creates a permanent bond. Store unused fittings out of direct sunlight to extend their lifespan, as UV exposure can degrade poly over time.
