Ensure the poly pipe is cut cleanly and inserted fully into the barb fitting until it seats against the shoulder. Secure the connection with two stainless steel hose clamps per barb—one near the pipe end and one further back—tightening evenly to create a watertight seal without crushing the pipe. For threaded connections, wrap PTFE tape around the male thread 3–4 times before screwing into the female adapter by hand, then tighten with a wrench. Allow solvent-weld joints to cure for 24 hours before pressurising the system. Tips: Always use stainless steel clamps with barb fittings in rural systems to prevent rust and corrosion, especially in Queensland's coastal and high-humidity regions. Cut pipe ends square with a sharp knife or pipe cutter to ensure proper seating and reduce leaks. For easier maintenance and repairs, use compression or threaded fittings at isolation points rather than solvent-welding throughout the entire line.
