HARDWOOD AUGER 32MM X 450MM ROTECH HA32450 at a glance

Need an auger for your wooden fence post.

These hard wood augers make installing your latches a breeze.

Rotech Hardwood Augers are made of high-grade chromium alloy steel which has a pressure strength of 4000-5000 MPa while standard hardwood augers are made of a high carbon steel which generally has a pressure strength of 400-500 MPa.

These augers are perfect for drilling clean holes through your timber posts.

There is a wide variety of sizes for a multitude of uses.

The smaller sizes are excellent for drilling holes for latches and for holes to run wire through.

The 18mm and 20mm augers provide a great fit for our gate kits.

Also available are bigger sizes which are better for drilling holes to run barb wire through your posts.

If purchasing an auger to install a gate kit, we recommend you use a slightly larger sized auger.

For example, if you are getting a 16mm gate kit, get the 18mm auger.

If you need to pull the gate kit out in the future the larger hole will make it easier.

It will simply slide in and out with minimal hassle.

Mark your post holes with a tape measure or chalk to ensure consistent spacing before starting. Position the auger vertically and apply steady downward pressure while rotating—let the tool do the work rather than forcing it. Withdraw the auger every 150-200mm to clear the soil buildup from the flutes, especially in clay or rocky ground. Once you've reached your desired depth (typically 450-600mm for fence posts), wiggle the auger side to side gently before pulling it out to loosen the surrounding soil. Tips: Wet your ground the day before if you're working in hard-baked clay—it'll save your back and your auger from binding up. A 32mm hole gives you good flexibility: it's the right size for standard rural fencing posts without being so large that you waste concrete, and it won't tear through buried rock as easily as a larger auger. Keep your auger clean between holes; dried clay buildup makes the next hole twice as hard and can cause the tool to twist unexpectedly.

Common Questions

What size holes does this auger drill?

This is a 32mm auger, so it drills 32mm diameter holes. It's ideal for drilling holes to run barb wire through your posts.

What makes Rotech augers different from standard ones?

Rotech Hardwood Augers are made of high-grade chromium alloy steel, which gives them a much higher pressure strength than standard hardwood augers made of high carbon steel. This makes them more durable and better for drilling clean holes through timber posts.

Can I use this auger with a gate kit?

This 32mm auger is larger than what's needed for most gate kits. However, using a slightly larger auger than your gate kit size is actually recommended — it makes installation easier and means you can slide the kit in and out with minimal hassle if you need to remove it in the future.

What's this auger good for?

The 32mm size is best suited for drilling holes to run barb wire through your fence posts. Smaller augers in the range are better for latches and running wire, but this size handles the bigger jobs.
