Drill a hole through your gate post at the required top-hinge height, sized to suit the 20mm threaded shaft. Pass the gudgeon's 275mm threaded shaft through the post so the pin points upward on the gate side, then secure it on the opposite face with washers and nuts, tightening firmly so the gudgeon can't rotate or pull through under the gate's weight. Fit a second gudgeon at the bottom hinge position the same way, then lower the gate's hinge straps (collars) over the two upward-facing pins so the gate hangs and swings freely. Tips: Line the top and bottom gudgeons up perfectly vertical so the gate doesn't drop or bind as it swings. Because the pin sits directly on top of the thread, the gate's weight is carried down the full length of the thread rod, so don't back the nuts off once the gate is hung. Galvanised gate hardware lasts longest in Queensland's wet-season and coastal conditions.
