Fit the brass gate valve inline on your 1 1/2" (40mm) BSP threaded line - gate valves are bidirectional, so it can face either way. Wind PTFE thread-seal tape clockwise around the male thread of the adjoining fitting (about 8-10 wraps), then hand-tighten the valve onto the thread and nip it up with a shifter or pipe wrench until it is snug and correctly aligned - don't over-tighten or you can distort the brass body. Open the handle fully before commissioning the line. Tips: Use thread tape or a suitable thread sealant on every threaded joint to prevent weeping. Run the valve fully open or fully closed only - gate valves are not designed for throttling, and part-open running wears the wedge and seat. Exercise the valve a few times a year so the wedge doesn't seize, especially on hard or mineral-rich water.
