Mark out your post positions and dig holes deep enough for a solid set, then secure the post in concrete or firm earth. Attach the hinge to the post at the correct height so your gate hangs square and clear of the ground. Fit the drop latch on the opposite post, making sure it aligns with the latch keeper on the gate, then test the swing and adjustment before putting stock through. Tips: Get your post spacing right from the start—a poorly spaced post will cause the gate to bind or sag, and you'll be adjusting it constantly.
