Fence post spacing — a quick guideLine posts (star pickets) carry the wires between your strainer posts. As a rough starting point: crop or exclusion fence about 5 m, sheep about 4 m, cattle about 4 m on flat ground and about 3 m on hilly ground. Space them closer together for more wires, larger or pushier stock, and undulating country. Let your strainer posts do the anchoring at ends, corners, gateways and any change of direction or slope.

Drive the 240cm galvanised heavy star post to 600-700mm depth using a post driver, leaving approximately 155-165cm above ground. The heavy gauge steel and hot-dipped galvanising make this post suitable for exposed locations, high-tension wire runs, and applications where extra post weight reduces movement under stock pressure. Attach wire at the pre-formed notches. Tips: Heavy gauge posts take more effort to drive — a hydraulic post driver is recommended for large quantities to reduce fatigue and ensure consistent depth. Drive on moist ground where possible; dry clay will resist even heavy posts. For corner and gate assemblies, pair with quality steel strainer assemblies to distribute load properly.
